I grew up with
The Beatles on so it goes without saying that learning easy
guitar tabs using the vast array of their songbook would
probably be a great place to start with your guitar learning.
When I first began my trek in that arena, it was easy to begin
with something I was aware of and when I played the song for
someone, they would smile as they knew it too. Does that make
sense? Starting with the familiar will help you to accomplish it
much faster than trying a song that you have no connection to.
Think about it. Don't you always have some song when you are
with your boyfriend, girlfriend or spouse? It brings back memories,
right? A song, be it The Beatles or whatever, will inspire you to
excel because of the familiarity aspect of the song.
With all of that being said, there seems to be some Beatles
songs that are a bit easier to master that others. We all have our
favorites, but there are some that appear on many a list from the
easy of learning and the sheer familiarity of the song.
Many of the songs seem to be from the early days of The Beatles,
more often than not, it is for the ability to play and learn the
guitar chords that accompany the music.
"Hey Jude", is one I started with, then I progressed to
"Michele", A Hard Day's Night" and "Twist and Shout."
What makes these easy form a learning standpoint? Well, I can
only speak from my experience, but, as I mentioned before, I had a
connection to them and it seems that I could move through the
chords with a fair amount of proficiency. It is in that aspect of
learning beginning guitar tabs, that it can be a more rewarding
experience. The quicker you can move through chords can give you a
tremendous amount of confidence to begin to tackle tougher
songs.
Like anything, it is all about the experience and the amount of
joy it brings you. If you never get a sense of accomplishment out
of playing the guitar, I can guarantee you that your guitar
experience will be short lived.
